Pirate - yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Who doesn't like a pirate? Ever since going to a ren faire, I wanted to do a pirate costume. It was more up my alley than the normal peasant clothes for women.
This was the first time in ages that I've designed clothing from scratch. I designed the shirt myself, and ended up sewing both an unbleached muslin one, as well as using dye on a second one made of muslin so I had the option of the off-white or wine when I wore it. Both are made to be more authentic - not elastic in the shoulders, but rope. The bodice is the first that I've designed completely from scratch, and it's the first leather garment I've made. While not perfect, it turned out remarkably well for a first-ever attempt. It's side-lacing and reversible so I can wear either the smooth or rough side of the leather out. I made the sash, but the pants were bought (ran out of time before D*C). The boots are from SCA Boots.
At some point, I would like to get my hands on a hat for this costume. I may also end up doing a coat, as it was generally agreed that when I temporarily borrowed my husband's pirate coat, it looked good.
